아무리 눈부시게 빛나는 불꽃도
태양 아래서는 흐릿할 뿐이다.
사람의 두뇌가 아무리 총명하고
외모가 아무리 아름다워도
마음 속에서 나오는 착함 앞에서는
그 빛을 잃게 된다.
선한 것보다 더 밝고 아름답고
빛나는 것은 없다.

영혼으로 듣는 생명의 음악
"네 영혼으로
음악을 듣도록 해."
덩컨은 가난도 고독도
하얗게 잊게 하는 음악이, 춤이 좋았다.
무용을 하는 언니 엘리자베스를 따라 춤을
추었다. 혼자서 숲속과 해변을 뛰어다녔다.
바람소리와 파도소리는 음악이었고,
몸짓은 곧 춤이 되었다.

한 번도 의심한 적 없었죠
몰랐어요 난 내가 벌레라는 것을
그래도 괜찮아 난 눈부시니까
