  이 모음곡의 작곡가 쇼스타코비치는 주로 교향곡 협주곡 실내악 등 전통 클래식 장르의 작곡가로 유명했다
  그리고 형식을 매우 중요시 여겼던 인물 하지만 그 외에도 가벼운 음악에 대한 흥미도 꾸준히 지니고 있긴 했다고 한다 심지어 예술에 대한 규제가 덜 했던(소련에서는 예술에도 규제가 많았다고 한다)레닌 집권기에는 미국 작곡가 빈센트 유먼스의 폭스트롯 둘이서 차를(Tea for two)을 독특한 음색의 관현악 소품으로 편곡하기도 했으며 재즈 블루스 등에도 관심을 가지고 있었다
  폭스트롯(Foxtrot): 4/4 박자로 이루어진 기본 4비트 리듬을 깔고 진행하는 춤이자 춤곡
  Dmitri Shostakovich: 소련의 작곡가이자 피아니스트
  한편 당시 소련과 유럽 전역에서는 Variety Show가 유행하고 있었다 이는 공연장에서 노래나 춤 코미디 서커스 마술 등이 잡다하게 펼쳐지는 영국의 뮤지컬 쇼인데 후에는 오페레타와 결합하여 조금 더 통일성을 가진 음악극 Revue 라는 파생 장르로 등장하기도 했다고 한다 그러나 2차 세계대전 이후 재즈나 락 음악 팝 음악 등의 번성으로 크게 쇠퇴가 되었는데 문화적으로 매우 보수적이었던 소련과 동유럽에서는 1950~60년대까지도 여전히 대중적인 오락 수단이었다
  아마 쇼스타코비치도 이런 사회적 특수성을 감안하여 이 모음곡을 만든 것으로 추정이 되는데 작곡가 본인의 다른 작품으로부터 유래한 곡들의 모음으로 이루어져 있다 총 8곡으로 이루어져 있으며 곡 연도는 정확하지는 않지만 대략적으로 1956년 이후로 추정 중이다 8곡 중 가장 마지막 시기의 작품인 6번째 곡 Waltz 2에 사용된 첫 번째 군용열차 ost는 1955~1956년 즈음에 작곡이 되었기 때문에 아무리 빨라도 1956년 혹은 그 이후로 추정되는 것 이 모든 것이 불분명한 이유는 가벼운 작품 중에서야 유명한 편이지만 주요 작품으로 취급되지 않았기에 한동안 베일에 싸여있다가 20c 말이 되어서야 인기 레퍼토리로 부상한 관현악 모음곡이기 때문이다 이 작품은 전통적 관현악곡과는 다른 악기편성을 보이며 군악대의 음악을 연상시키는 명쾌하고 활기찬 사운드에 러시아아의 우수나 낭만이 깃든 선율이 가미된 독특함을 지니고 있다 여러분도 느끼실지는 모르겠지만 러시아 음악들은 대체적으로 그들이 갖는 특유의 우울한 정서를 지니고 있는데 이곡 또한 그러한 정서를 엿볼 수 있는 음악인 듯싶다 그러니까 지극히 러시아적인 작품

  1. 작곡가 본인이 작곡한 영화 코르진키나의 모험 (Приключения Корзинкиной)의 ost에서 따온 음악으로 박력 넘치는 군대 행진곡풍이라기보다는 서커스나 오페레타 풍의 가볍고 익살스러운 느낌이다
  2. 제목처럼 왈츠 리듬을 타고 흘러가는 음악이지만 비엔나 왈츠와는 달리 색소폰이 연주하는 러시아 특유의 우울한 정서가 담겨있는 멜로디가 주가 되어 진행되는 악장이다
  3. 본인이 1955년에 작곡한 영화 등에(Овод)의 ost에서 가져온 음악으로 클라리넷과 색소폰이 제시하는 빠른 멜로디가 주가 되는 쾌활한 폴카이다
  4. 앞서 소개되었던 Lyric Waltz 나 이후에 소개될 Waltz2 와는 다르게 밝은 느낌의 장조로 작곡이 되었으나 이 또한 비엔나 왈츠보다는 차이코프스키의 발레에 나올 법한 스타일의 음악이다
  5. 실로폰 특유의 가벼운 음색으로 주된 선율을 나타내는 악장 이 외에도 클라리넷과 색소폰의 속주(빠른 연주)와 트럼본의 글리산도 등이 더해지며 속도감과 익살스러운 분위기를 배로 느끼게 해준다
  글리산도(glissando): 높이가 다른 두 음 사이를 급속한 음계에 의해 미끄러지듯이 연주하는 방법
  6. ​본인 작곡의 첫 번째 군용열차 ost에서 따왔다 가장 유명하고 잘 알려진 음악으로 스탠리 큐브릭 감독의 영화Eyes wide shut (아이즈 와이드 샷) 혹은 우리나라 번지점프를 하다 등에 ost로 사용되었다 악보상 7번이기에 7번왈츠 제목인 Waltz2 혹은 Jazz waltz로 불리기도 한다 하지만 재즈 오케스트라를 위한 모음곡2가 아니기에 Jazz Waltz 또한 잘못 알려진 표기이다 트럼펫이 주제 선율을 연주하며 시작하고 그 뒤를 오케스트라가 이어받는데
  러시아의 우수가 담긴 듯한 서정적 주제 선율을 왈츠라는 흥겨운 춤곡 형식에 담아내며 그 서정이 오히려 감추어진 슬픔의 모습으로 부각되는 음악이다
  7. 쾌활한 폴카 스타일의 음악이다 중간부는 빠르기와 박자가 바뀌며 마치 왈츠와 같은 분위기로 전환된다 1930~1931년에 본인이 작곡한 두 번째 발레 볼트 중 무언극과 교황의 춤 에서 따온 음악인데 이 음악은 이후 세 번째이자 마지막 발레 작품이 된 맑은 시냇물 에서 만남의 초대 라는 제목으로 그대로 사용되기도 했다
  8. 1번 행진곡과 같이 코르진키나의 모험 (Приключения Корзинкиной)의 ost에서 가져온 음악이다 쾌활한 분위기의 곡으로 후반부에는 첫 번째 행진곡의 선율이 인용되며 끝을 맺는다

  그러다 보면 노력하는 사람은 봐도 모르고
  자기 욕심에 빠져 관계를 망치기 쉽다
  내 행복은 내가 채우는 것이지
  누군가 채워주는 게 아니다
  가진 게 없어줄 것이 없으면
  노력 없이 받는 것에 익숙해지지 마라
  멍청해서 당신을 사랑하는 것이 아니다
  단지 사랑하니까 모르는 척할 뿐이다

  인간관계에서 기대하지 않는다 대신
  나는 무언가를 주거나 희생을 하며 이런 방식의
  어떤 기대도 품지 않는다 내가 이 정도 했으니
  이 정도는 주겠지 내가 양보를 했으니 그 마음
  알아주겠지 기대하면 무조건 실망하게 된다
  그래서 모든 기대는 자신에게 손해다 만족하는
  경우는 거의 발생하지 않기 때문이다 대신 나는
  다른 선택을 한다 타인을 향한 기대가 아닌 나
  자신을 향한 만족감을 선택하는 것이다
  도울 수 있어서 참 다행이다
  줄 수 있는 사람이라서 행복하다
  늘 저 사람을 믿고 지지하고 싶다
  기대를 하는 것도 물론 좋다 하지만 받는 것을
  생각하지 않고 주는 선에서 큰 행복을 자신에게
  선물할 수 있다면 일상에서 만날 기쁨의 기회를
  늘릴 수 있다 ...
  
  줄 사람이 있다는 것도 행복입니다
  그래도 내가주고 싶은사람 에게는 아낌없이 주렵니다
  또한 내가 그 사람 보다는 마음의 여유가 있는 행복한 사람이라고 알게 되었습니다
  기대하면 실망은 같은 선상에 있습니다
  인간관계에서 기대하지않고 사는게 지혜롭게 사는거라는 생각과
  자신에게도 상처가 덜 될 것 같다고 느꼈습니다
  줄 수 있어 행복한 것은 내마음의 편한함을 느낄수 있어 웃을수 있는 날이길 바랍니다
  이상적인 관계는 하나의 별을 지목해서 도란도란 이야기를 나누다가 각자의 별로
  돌아가서 잠들고 다시 이야기를 나눌 별을 지목하는 것입니다
