［라흐마니노프 교향곡 제2번 작품번호 27 (Rachmaninoff Symphony no.2) ］
Sergey Rachmaninov(1873~1943)
라흐마니노프가 남긴 세편의 교향곡은
피아노곡의 그늘에 가려 빛을 보지 못하는 편이다.
하지만 제2번 교향곡은 피아노 협주곡 못지 않게 인기다.
1908년 1월 상트 페테르부르크에서 자신의 지휘로
이 곡을 초연한 라흐마니노프는 글링카상까지 수상했다.
이 곡을 들으면 금방 차이코프스키가 떠오른다.
하지만 차이코프스키가 단편적인 선율을 교묘히 엮어놓은 데 반해
라흐마니노프는 4악장을 아우르는 흐름과 구성미에서 한 수 위다.
1979년 그룹 코기스의 팝송 'If I Had You' 로 편곡된
3악장 아다지오의 서정적인 선율이 이 작품의 전부는 아니다.
근육질의 남성적인 박진감이 넘치는 2악장(스케르초)과 4악장에서도
멜로디의 홍수를 느낄 수 있다.
그런 점에서 라흐마니노프는 '천부적인 멜로디스트' 다.
1시간 가까이 걸리는 이 교향곡은
1악장과 4악장의 반복 부분이 생략돼 연주되는 게 보통이다.

지난 사랑에서 자유롭지 못하는 어리석음은..
기억에 지배 당하는 인간의 우둔함 때문이 아니던가.

머릿속에 저장 되어진 모든 것들이 새로움으로 덧입혀져 묵은 기억을 지워버려도
심장의 거칠고 쉼없는 고동소리는 또다시 기억해낼 것이다..
